With all the buzz on Hops right now, I have a question.
Do you or will you use your homegrown hops to dry hop with?
Last fall I got about a pound off my 1st year hops. They are cascade which I will use for dry hopping sometimes. When the time came to dry hop an IPA I just didn't do it.
I've seen aphids and spiders and other things on my hops during the growing season and just got worried about putting those in my brew.
I don't use chemicals on my plants but enlist a massive army of lady bugs and Mantis.

Obviously I use them during the boil but do any of you use them to dry hop with?

I do. The hop drying process will kill the insects, which rarely travel off of the leaves anyway.

I could be wrong, but I'd bet that there were lifeforms of some sort on the hops growing in the hop fields. I'd rather them then any chemical.

I did not think about the bugs leaving.
