Hey HBT,

I am joining my wife on a trip to York this December and wondered if anyone had suggestions on the "must visit" pubs or breweries in the UK.

My schedule is pretty open so we can certainly make a day trip out of any suggestions you have.

Thanks!

In York it's well worth going to The Hop on Fossgate : http://www.thehopyork.co.uk but my favourite is the Blue Bell also on Fossgate, small Edwardian place.

Also The House of Trembling Madness on Stonegate is kind of fun and bits of the building go back to the 1100's before you guys over the pond set up your first pub ;)

For a trip out Beverley near by is lovely and The White Horse is a lovely old (pre 1660ish) place still lit by gaslight ( http://www.nellies.co.uk/). Well worth a visit.

The Sun Inn in Beverley used to be worth a visit not sure now as I've not been for a while, it's the oldest in town at 1530 and by the minster so worth going if just for the history of it. ( http://www.suninnbeverley.co.uk/)

Hope you enjoy your trip.
