Hi T, I'm not from your area, but thought I'd ask if you've taken a look at the AHA's site, where they list homebrew clubs around the country. You can see if there is already one in your area. I'd be surprised if there wasn't, especially if you include Lawrence and Topeka.
And good luck finding other brewers - my experience in our homebrew club has been great, both for my brewing and just personally.

Meetings are indeed on the second Thursday of the month @ 1263 North 1100 Road, Lawrence, KS 66047. There's usually a good turnout of 30-50+ people.
You can also check out the Topeka Hall of Foamers http://halloffoamers.com/ but I've never been to any of their meetings.
