First time using WLP001 it took off like crazy. Wish I had time to brew yesterday @ high Krausen.

Using a blow-off for a starter sounds like "shouldda used a bigger vessel!" 
That said, the last pair of starters I did for two batches of IPA actually did start to swamp the ferm locks on the two 32oz PET bottles I used. It was touch and go there towards the end but they got pitched in the nick o' time before things got dicey...
