Thanks for any input on this

I'd loose the Crystal 40L, you don't need the color and I guess if it is an American Hefe the hops will be OK, definately noticable, might overpower the yeast esters.

lose the Crystal 40...i think it will make things cloyingly sweet...just make up the gravity with base malt and wheat malt.

also...kill the Horizon addition at .05 oz for 2 ibu. seems like a waste of time. If you want the 2 ibu, bump your warrior and just do one addition. .05 oz of any hop wont make a noticeable difference

Of course it is a matter of personal taste... I brew hefs about every third or fourth batch and my taste goes towards the Bavarian style more than the american wheat style....

21.4 IBUs is way too much for this style - should be more like 18 max and is best about 14 (IMO). You can go with a bittering hop only - you don't need any other additions for a hef. I use hallertau - usually .75 or 1.0 oz for a 5 gallon batch depending on AA%.

I would also lose the crystal - again I don't think it goes with the style.

Up the wheat to base malt ratio so it is at least 50 / 50 and I like to add some (like 1/4 - 1 pound) of melanoidin malt for wheats - gives it more of a true Bavarian hef flavor without the decoction mashing. I love using Munich or Vienna instead of base malt for hef. My grain bill is usually something like 6# wheat, 5# Munich, .5# melanoidin.

As for yeast, so far my hands down favorite is wlp 380 or wyeast 3333. Usually do a 1.5L starter.

Thanks for the feedback,
I have messaged the recipe a bit. I kept in a little Crystal for color and because Widmere has it in there recipe so it can't be bad.
