So, I'm brand new to making mead and I'm hoping to have a small batch to try out by Christmas. By small, I mean in a 1.5 liter bottle. I've already figured out the amount of honey to use but the yeast has me stumped. I'm using bread yeast (Red Star Instant Dry Yeast) because that's all I can get for the moment. How much of it should I use? And should I put an orange slice in there as well?

1 packet of yeast should do fine. Id recommend you look in the recipe section for Joe's Ancient Orange Mead. JAOM is based on ingredients you can get at the grocery store and uses bread yeast.

Thank you so much for the fast reply! I'll look into the recipe. It sounds like what I'm looking for.
