how's it going guys (and gals)? so, my roommate and i brewed up our first batch of irish stout. and, the next day decided to go ahead brew our 2nd batch of brown ale. one problem we encountered was how to take a measurement with our hydrometer. is it necessary to take a sample and put it in the tube or can we just drop the hydrometer into the bucket? at the time, we didn't have anything to transfer the liquid into the measuring tube and didn't want to dunk the tube into the bucket for fear of contaminating it with our heads. is it best to get a turkey baster or something?
i am sorry in advance at how basic this question is.
