Brewing my first batch, I had to rig up a blowout tube from my airlock tonight to avoid some major messiness. I have it running to a bucket with some water in it. Do I need to keep the bucket with water in it sanitized?

Thanks!

Nah. The high amount of co2 in the tube will kill anything trying to migrate up it.

But since you have water so close to your bucket, I would toss some star San in it, just in case something happens while you have the top off.

Most people dilute some starsan or iodophor in the water. I've done it with both and with plain water and have never had a problem.

Straight water in my 1 gallon milk jug. I have 100% no fear of infection doing it this way. Kinda like having a fear something is going to go up and in your tailpipe while your car is running.
