Help with Trying to install heating elements in Electric HLT

Hi Guys,
I am in the process of building an Electric HLT out of a Igloo 10 gallon round water Cooler. I am installing 2- 1500w elements and am using the 1' lock nut with o-ring (Bargain Fittings.com) to secure it, For the life of me I can not get the lock nut to thread on to the water heater element, any tips or tricks?? This is getting frustrating!!!

It should be pretty easy. Where did you get the heating elements from? Perhaps they are a different thread type?
