Hi all. How do you carbonate Apfelwein? Is it just a case of putting some sugar in the bottle before bottling it? Cheers :)

Yup, just as simple as that. And it carbonates to really fine bubbles, almost like champagne.

Just make sure you measure the sugar correctly, or use carb drops AND that you use champaign bottles or you will be making Apfelwein bottle bombs.

for a 5 gallon batch I use 5 ounces of sugar(dextrose, sucrose - whatever) and then bottle.

now I keg so it goes in under normal pressure and is carbed in about a week.

i like it carbonated much more than still

I made it to be very lightly carbed, worked out really well. Basically, wait for it to finish fermenting, leave it to clear by its self, ans then bottle. Leaves just enough carb to add to the experience of the wine. It was a really big hit, and i have more on the go.
And no doubt, i shall do some more before tha is done.

And then some more at apple picking season. :)
