Howdy everybody.

Just got laid off today..
Really I was fortunate to last this long.
This was the third 50% workforce cut in so many months.
My Dept went from 30+ to 18, to 7, to 3...and Tuesday my boss gets the axe too (after he finishes the paperwork for those of us who got laid off today).

It was a cool Job, contracting for Caterpillar R&D in Peoria, IL. Lots of cool stuff to build and experiment with, eccentric physicist-engineers to work with, and flexible hours.

Anyway,
I guess I'll be looking for a new job.
My background is in UltrasonicTesting, MIG Welding, and Engineering,
but for the interim I'll be working with my wife's uncle--he installs and repairs septic systems: done it before ...it's a sh!tty job :)
I figure I need at least 15/hr to survive (my wife is a stay-at-home mommy),
so 11.50/hr shoveling **** doesen't sound great, right now.

Anywhoo,
I know lots of other folks are in the same situation,
and just wanted to let you know I'm in the boat with you.

So here's a toast:
To Roughing The Rough Times
And Living With NO Regrets

Cheers,
Philip

Wasnt Obama just there talking about how the porkulus is gonna get tons of people hired there?

Good luck- Im sure with your 1337 skillz you wont be out of work long

Thanks,

I hope you are right. I got laid off from ATT last february and it took 6 months for a replacement job (which paid 40% less) to come my way.
Seems like everybody wants a college degree nowadays...
left half way through University to Go teach overseas.
And then when I got back, I got married, started a family, and the rest, as they say, is history :).
Who knows, maby I'll have time to finish someday...
anywhoo... thanks

Lightspeed project
I was a F2 engineer,
copper conditioning mostly, to enable high-speed internet and TV over phone lines...

Just got my Uverse a month ago.... Had to cut the bridgetap off my own F2's though...

Sorry to hear about your job situation... Good luck...

:mug:

That really sucks. I hope things turn around for you. Get your resume together quick! You have some skills to work with and hopfully you'll get noticed.

Sorry about the job loss.
Septic? I did plumbing on and off for years, got out of it,
got back into it in 2002. i never had the stomach for the honey pumper.

Check out verizon. They are looking for skilled people/engineers.
