I went to add my yeast(White labs--California ale yeast) to my 2000ml starter and when I opened the liguid yeast, it just foamed and bubbled over the tube-- obviously couldn't use it. Did I do something wrong, did I shake it too much or could the yeast have been bad. I let it come to room temp for about 3 hours as directed then shook it to put it into suspension then wham--- explosion when I opened it What's up? Luckily I have some dry yeast for tomorrows brew.

Happens all the time, next time treat it like a soda bottle and crack it slowly to let any gas escape.

Mine did that yesterday too. My brew is fermenting away just fine. I think the yeast was just ready to eat!
