I decided to work off of a DFH Indian Brown Ale recipe, and make a hybrid brown ale with IPA hoppiness. I tentatively call it "Sexual Chocolate Ale." Are my IBU's too high you think? What about my Malt profile, anything stand out as totally disgusting?

Sexual Chocolate Ale (Indian Brown Ale Variation)
Batch Size: 5.5 Gallon
S04 Yeast

12 lbs Pale 2 Row
4 oz Roasted Barley
.5 lbs Chocolate Malt
1 lbs Aromatic Malt
.5 lbs Crystal 60

.75 oz Warrior at 60
1 oz Vanguard at 20
1 oz Vanguard at flameout

OG (est) – 1.069 at 70% efficiency
SRM – 27
IBU - 50

cheers

I think you could drop the roasted barley. I used 8oz chocolate in a similar brown and it makes a very nice color, leaving a nice roasted flavor but not over powering. You could consider upping the crystal malt, but with the S-04, you will probably leave enough residula sweetness for some body.

I think the IBUs are fine. I have used Vnaguard so I cannot comment on that. I used Centennial and Cascade, it was great.
