How's this look?

8.50 lb Pale Malt, Maris Otter
0.75 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L
4.00 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (30 min) Hops 45.7 IBU
1.00 - 2.00 oz Williamette [5.50 %] (Dry Hop) Hops

Thought of using WLP007 Dry English on this.

I think you would get a lot more hop flavor if you move 2 ounces of your cascades back to 60 min and then add an ounce at 20 and 10, or 15 and 5. That is going to be a malty beast!

It's at 45.7 IBUs with a ratio of 0.902. Doesn't sound too malty to me.

Oh you will be good on that. The Maris Otter just really comes through. I think you are running a really nice ratio on this one. GL.

Thinking about splitting the Cascade additions with some Centennial and maybe a small addition at 60 min or maybe a FWH. I ordered some bulk hops recently so I'll probably be brewing this up in the next 2 weeks or so.

How quickly do you plan on drinking this? I did this and the hop flavor and aroma lasted less than a month out of the primary. I found that you absolutely need a sixty minute addition. If you are looking for ~50IBU then I would put 25-30 at 60min and then the rest at 20min or less. Then you will have a really hoppy and balanced out beer.

Good luck!

Ah, thanks! How long was your primary for?

Made some changes.

9.25 lb Pale Malt, Maris Otter
0.75 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L

0.25 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (60 min) Hops 5.6 IBU
0.25 oz Centennial [10.00 %] (60 min) Hops 10.2 IBU
1.75 oz Centennial [10.00 %] (20 min) Hops 24.0 IBU
1.75 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (20 min) Hops 13.2 IBU

1 Pkgs Dry English Ale (White Labs #WLP007)

Alright, made a bunch of changes. How's that look?

Batch size: 5.5 gallons
OG: 1058
IBUs: 68.4
Color: 7 SRM

7.00 lb Pale Malt, Maris Otter
3.00 lb Vienna Malt
0.75 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L
0.50 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (60 min) 11.1 IBU
0.50 oz Centennial [10.00 %] (60 min) 20.2 IBU

1.75 oz Centennial [10.00 %] (20 min) 23.9 IBU
1.75 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (20 min) 13.1 IBU

1 Pkgs Dry English Ale (White Labs #WLP007)

Mash at 154

That looks really good as a tasty beer. I hope I didn't dissuade you from doing your hop burst idea though. I made up an IPA that turned out flavored more PA style because I used the majority of the hops in the last 20min and in the end I felt that it was just a waste without that first bittering addition. I used a total of 4.25oz of hops for 5 gallons and only .5oz at 60min. The rest went in as FWH, <20min or DH. Great beer, not great IPA.

Something that you might think about doing is take that cascade addition out of the 60 and instead add it at the 5min mark just for aroma. If you think you will miss the bitter then up the Centennial to match the missing 11 IBU. I really do like a 5min or flameout addition for a lot of aroma.

Good luck no matter what you do!

Just mashed in. Final recipe is as follows. I brought the gravity down some and added a different bittering hop along with some carapils.

5.50 lb Pale Malt, Maris Otter
2.00 lb Munich Malt
0.50 lb Cara-Pils/Dextrine

0.50 oz Magnum [14.00 %] (60 min) Hops 28.5 IBU
1.50 oz Centennial [10.00 %] (20 min) Hops 20.6 IBU
1.50 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (20 min) Hops 11.3 IBU

US-05

I will report back in after extensively research the outcome.

Brewed this late last night. Ran out of propane, burn the **** out of my thumb and broke my hydrometer. I was exhausted and all but fell asleep so the yeast nutrient and irish moss additions flew right by unnoticed. I'm working at the homebrew shop today so I'm gonna grab a hydrometer and check the gravity tonight. I no chill so I haven't pitched the yeast yet.
