Mine made it through one, but it was only on for 20 seconds max. It was turning red.
 
I had the fancy S shaped camco elements that reportedly can withstand dryfiring. Well, they can't. I dry fired them for less than a minute or two during the mash. I discovered that one of them was shot during the sparge and had to replace the elements during the middle of a brew day. No fun.
