No clue. I saw a keg like this at my hbs the other day and didn't ask how it worked.

Tip of a screwdriver on the gas-in post.
Are there any instances when I would want to purge while the gas was connected?

It's a pin-lock lid, so you have to depress the gas in post

Really, the only time to purge is immediately after kegging in order to dilute the air in the headspace or maybe to drop pressure in an overcarb condition.
sounds like pin lock keg converted to ball locks, u might be able to get a new lid with the proper pressure relief , my keg was a pin lock that i converted to ball locks but it had a manual pressure relief , first time i ever saw that
