I'd like to get a few more fermenters, and with glass carboys on the way out, I'm looking for a source... Plastic is fine, however I get a little nervous about plastic buckets. Any have a good suggestion for something cheap? I'd like something around 7-8 gallons that I can submerge in a cooler for temp. controlling.

you can find lots of carboys on craigs list. I just loaded up pretty cheaply. I have four sizes as well, for various uses.

I've been VERY happy with my vittles vaults. I use the 4.7 gal ones for my 3-ish gallon batches. Being square means I can easily fit four of 'em in my fermentation fridge.

I know OP said he doesn't like buckets but my local bakery sells frosting buckets with air tight lids for $1. I drilled a hole for plug w/ airlock. It works great for me (I use it as a spare right now) Can't beat that price!

Those Vittle vaults would make a decent primary. This is the first time I've seen any posts related to them. 8 gallon would be excellent for 5 gallon batches and the price is reasonable too.

Cornie- Shielded from light, easy to rack over, etc etc.... Not as cheap as "vittle vailt" (I don't think) but they've always worked great for me (def. want to use blow off with 5 gallon batches).
