Gearing up for a snow day/brew day. I have the Better Brew kit, and after reading 10 steps for better extract brewing, I've made modifications. I'm thinking of adding 1/2lb of Brittish 2 row to the steep/mini-mash for a total of 2.5 lbs of grain. It raised the OG from 1.071 to 1.074 in Brew Pal- worth it? Here's what I have. I will plan on 3.3 LME late addition. I could also spike the wort with some Simcoe's @ 60 minutes. Any suggestions?

so what ingredients actually came with the kit? If you want to make it an actual mini-mash, I'd drop a can of extract and add a few lbs of the 2-row instead. Otherwise, IMO the 0.5lb of 2-row is kinda pointless since the rest of the grains don't require a mash.

edit: I ask what it came with, because if you're buying extract, I recommend only getting light extract that way you have more control over what you're doing. plus the darker the extract the less fermentables.

The kit is everything listed exept for the 2 row base malt. My reasoning is to increase the grain volume to 2.5 lbs, get a more robust wort, and hopefully ferment a little further.

Yeah, the kit says 61-64 but Brew Pal says 40. Thats why I was thinking of spiking it with a 60 minute addition.
