So I did a 1L starter on a fresh pack of 1056, split the batch and continued on with a 2L starter after letting it settle in the fridge for a couple hours and decanting. I noticed a "floatie" after pitching the yeast into the flask and removed it, which was a small flea size bug. Once I put it on the stir plate, I noticed another one swirling around. I'm guessing it came from a bowl of saran wrapped DME I had sitting for a couple weeks, so it likely has been boiled in the wort, but I can't be sure. Should I toss it and start all over with the other half, or can I assume it will be safe to use?

Start over. If they weren't boiled they could have contaminated the starter with acetobacter etc. No bueno.
