I am planning on trying to make a gf beer for my sister in law.

for one of the recipes I got some hulled roasted buckwheat...

did I get the wrong thing...does it have to be malted first?

What did the recipe call for? (Or, what was the full recipe?)

If you are using this is a 'specialty grain', roasted buckwheat may be appropriate, but as a base malt, well, you'd need malt.

I will be using white sorghum Syrup as well ... I will have to check the recipe but i believe it is a specialty grain

another question:

I will also be using millet as a specialty grain in the recipe ... i have roasted it do i need to crush it or use as is?

the grains should be crushed. but dont turn it into flour, and im speaking from experience, youll end up with glue

I personally dont think you should crush it unless you have plans to mash it with enzymes.

If you are steeping, dont crush.
