I will be traveling up for a week soon and wanted to know of any great beer places up there. I will be just south of West Jefferson. Thanks!!!!

What are some beers to look for up there that do not make it here?

Founders?

Man I live in Boone but will be moving in a month. If you come up before June 26th, shoot me a line You should bring some homebrew up and we will drink or swap some. I have only an Imperial Stout 3 weeks in bottle, brewed up on 4/9. I also have a Wee Heavy 3 weeks in bottle brewed on 4/19. I can tell you about some good hiking trails and a 50 ft. waterfall you can jump off. Anyway, to answer your question there is a gem called Peabodys.

It's on Highway 105. It has all kinds of goodies. They carry some really good beers. Carry quite a bit of Founders and they always manage to get some special Founders like KBS, Nemesis, Double Trouble. Right now you can find Founders Red Rye PA, Porter, Centennial IPA.

At any rate I can keep you posted about what they have. Do you have any more beer preferences?

Get your hands on some Highland brews (Asheville, N.C.), Duck-Rabbit (Farmville, NC) aka "The Dark Beer Specialist", Pisgah Brewing Co. (Mt. Pisgah, NC), Big Boss (Raleigh, N.C.).

If you want to get a good beer on tap, then hit up Mellow Mushroom as they always have ever delightful rotating taps. They always have Foothills on tap. Foothills brewery is from Winston-Salem and they make some stellar beers. They only keg, however.

If you can hit up Asheville sometime, definitely do. The guys up at Highland brewery are fantastic, and you get a lot of different brews to try.

My recommendation for Boone would still be Peabody's, who has a very nice selection of bottled beers.

I hit Peabodys every year when I go up to see my Brother. They do have a great selection of local and national micros as well as imports and a nice humidor. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. I always stock up on brews that don't have distribution down here when I go.
