I have a brown substance on the underside of my lid (it is just a 5 gallon buck) I am brewing a Muntons hopped amber malt extract. I have used malto-dextron for body and Irish moss for clearity.

Does anybody know anything about this.

thanks,
Dan

P.S. The brown substance is very bitter ( i tasted it:drunk:)

You might want to consider getting a larger bucket. When the krausen touches the lid, it tells me that it was very close to going into your airlock. Krausen can plug an airlock and cause too much pressure in the fermenting bucket resulting in it blowing its lid off and getting beer and krausen all over.
