I just bottled my first batch of beer and was wondering i was thinking that i saw somewhere that swirling the bottles during conditioning to help the settling yeast would help the process of carbonation. Is this true, also if so would this cause loss of carbonation and defeat the purpose?

It's not needed. If you have a conditioning beer that you accidentally let get too cold, or a high gravity beer that's taking months to carbonate, a gentle swirl to get the yeast into suspension might be beneficial.

It's a closed container, so shaking/swirling can't cause loss of carbonation as long as you let it settle in the fridge for a while before you open it.

Yeah I thought it wouldn't matter since its a closed container but didn't know since I'm so new to the whole process.
