I brewed an IPA the other night and after I aerated and pitched the yeast and moved it to my closet I noticed that about 6 inches up the bottom of the carboy there is a ring of sediment floating. Im new to homebrew so sorry if this is common, thanks for any help.

Better Bottles have molded ridges in the sides that can catch sediment. I don't believe glass carboys do.
