O2 absorbing bottle cap

When they get wet, they absorb oxygen. The idea is that they help keep your beer from oxidizing if you store it in bottle for a long time.
 
And I heard somewhere not to soak them in sanitizer because of that?

That's an old wives' tale, I think. One of the podcasts called up the manufacturer and was told that the O2 absorption happens over hours and days, not minutes. Plus, caps are generally rife with nasties.

I've always sanitized (soaked in iodophor in my vinator after cleaning bottles); but remember reading somewhere not to do it...
