Surly Furious clone

For those who have had a Surly Furious, I tried to make a clone of this from an extract kit. For those who haven't, a furious is an 85 ibu pale ale. Golden in color and fairly clear. My home brew was slightly darker and pretty earthy in flavor. It's not a bad taste but not what I was hoping for.

It was fermenting for 7 days, 21 days in the secondary (dry hopped the last 7 days), then into the keg.

Please let me know any thoughts or advise regarding the off flavor. I don't have the list of hops used for this so I'm wondering if it was a procedure problem.

Was this the NB kit? I tried it last year and thought is was not very good and way short on hops in the boil.
