I am heating 9.5 gallons to 173F in my HLT. I will then transfer 2.8 gallons of this water to the MLT and let it preheat the tun, and cool to 163F before mashing in.
While the MLT is preheating I will add the remaining 1.5 gallons of water which is at 58F to the remaining 173F water in the HLT, equalizing the temp at 153F, the temp at which I can begin to recirculate my mash through the HERMS coil.(I have a spreadsheet that calculates this) At this time I will rest my JC419 to 153F for the remainder of the mash.

11 gallons water total
Pre-boil volume 7.4
90-min boil
Post-boil volume 5.3

An early start to a good weekday brewday. Im jealous, I have to go get a sod cutter and resod a section of my yard today and tomorrow. I would much rather be brewing...

Good luck, I hope all goes well for you today!

I will get pics and vids up in a bit... mash is complete, ramping up to mashout.....

Looks tasty!

Dude, your system is off the hook. I wish I could get it together enough to come up with something like that.

Thanks, it is 3 years of brewing experience and lots of $$. Coolers matched up with HERMS give me some excellent temp control, ability to adjust temp, and superior wort clarity. I love it!

Before I built it I would do an AG brew about once every 6 weeks, now
I average 3/month!

The 90 minute boil is complete, it is chilling now, fermentor is ready to go, the yeasties (US-05) are rehydrating in some warm 1.007 wort. Pics and another vid to come....

40 minute sparge @ 168F

70% eff. (which is all I can do with the crush I get on these grains GRRR!) I hate seeing whole kernels in the grain bill...
