After doing some research on the matter, had a quick question pertaining to doing a full boil without sparge for a 5 gallon batch (equipment constraints). Is this possible and what impact would it have on the final beer flavor? Outlined a quick process below for cutting out the sparge and combining water volumes:

From a recipe on this site (Strawberry Alarm Clock):

Step Time Name Description Step Temp
75 min Mash In Add 12.81 qt of water at 163.7 F 152.0 F
10 min Mash Out Add 8.20 qt of water at 196.6 F 168.0 F

Sparge with 2.64 gallons 168.0 F water.

Im assuming 1. full water amount would be boiled in a 32 qt pot (Steepening water volume + sparge volume) 2. the grains would have to be steeped in a bag 3. normal steepening time of about 85 minutes (follow mash in/out temps) 4. pour once over grain bag into the ale pale (quasi sparge) 5. Recirculate water through grain bag back to original pot ---> then fermenter?

Thanks in advance, i've been trying to figure this one out with having to buy a ton of equipment.

Sounds like a BIAB

From the sparge info you have above you might be using a program like beersmith? Might look at changing the equipment to match what you have, beersmith does great and has a basic BIAB setup in it.

Thanks - after some tinkering around, great program. Helps out a lot!

Thanks again.
