For the most part, this is exactly the same as the Hobby Beverage MiniBrew 6.5, with the exception that the MiniBrew has metal ball valves for the dump port and the racking port. I actually own the MiniBrew 6.5 and I like it very much; of course I purchased mine brand new on Ebay for $89 back in August, that's what made the purchase a "no brainer" for me. You won't find them that cheap anymore. The big plus to having a conical is that you don't have to transfer for secondary fermentation. This isn't as big a deal for ales; but it's still nice to dump the dead yeast once and a while. The other nice thing is not having to transfer again for bottling. My honest opinion is, if you plan on sticking with 5 gallon batches, these fermenters are not a bad investment. They do have definite upsides.

Looks like a pretty good deal. I may go with the 15 gallon version, I should be able to put it together for about $200.

I use a 14 gallon Tuff Tank as a primary from EC Krause for 10 gallon batches , then 2 - 5 gallon glass carboy's for secondary. I then use the Tuff Tank for a bottling bucket. Works great and it was about $50 or so. free shipping.

I also have the 6.5 gallon mini brew but I still use glass secondaries. mainly because I brew so much and havent finished my brew setup yet. I have all of these glass carboys laying around so I primary in the minibrew and then transfer the sanitized lines into the carboy. my setup actually works really well for me.

as a side note I think im going to checkout the 25 gallon setups metioned earlier for that cheap you cant beat it. I would just have to find a way to sneak it past the wife.

Even better if your into DIY! :rockin:

Plastic welder (think soldering with hot hair glue gun)

Grab a couple plastic buckets and build one(or more) cheap!

If you only build one it would cost:

2 buckets - $10.00 (seen em for $4.30 but $5 ea. is about average)
plast welder - $29.99
Total: $39.99 and some time to make a single batch conical. add another $5 bucket to make it bigger...

Dude, that's cool! Dunno that I would go through that trouble, but it's cool!
