My first shot at pressure canning wort.

From what I have read, everyone says that theirs turns out very dark colored. Mine isnt, and it has a lot of trub at the bottom (more than I would have expected).

I am using pilsen DME, about .75 cups per quart.

I am keeping at 15 psi for about 20 min.

Does it have to be dark colored? The pilsen is light, so I would think the starter would be light.

Sounds about right. As long as the gravity is in range (1.30-1.040), you're fine. I use metric measurements here because it's easy to remember - 100g DME: 1000mL water.

Just decant when preparing a starter.

wow, that pic ended up big. Big pic for big win in detroit last night.

Well, according to beer smith, 1 quart should have .23 lbs of DME for 1.040. This equates to .63 cups of dme, which isnt easy to measure. Also, you can exactly measure the gravity AFTER you can it, so I hope Im close.

So, 1) does that look ok? 2) do my calcs seem right to you guys? and 3) What are the ramification if the gravity isnt between 1.030 - 1.040 (lets just say its higher...)?
