1 yeast pack or 2?

I'm planning to brew a nut brown this weekend (estimated OG 1.048) using dry yeast. this will be my first batch.

I checked the Mr Malty calculator and it tells me I need 1.9 5oz packs of dry yeast. I did happen to buy an extra pack - so i have two 6oz packs.

This may be a dumb question - but why do all the kits just give you one pack if you really need closer to 2?

Should I use 2 packs? Is there harm in over-yeasting?

no harm in using 2.

but if you oxygenate your wort well, one pack should be sufficient.

6 oz is not enough for a 5 gallon batch. You need to have one 11oz or two 6 oz packs to get proper pitching rates. One 6 oz will work but it will have a long lag time. Just pitch the two


Reason why they give you one is money. They save a buck or two on every kit because like I said one will work but isn't optimal

Yup, 11oz is necessary for 5gal batch. Pitch 2 and let the magic happen.

I think every is talking grams here, not ounces. Otherwise you all pitch a ton of yeast.
