anyone know if this principle would work - if i threw some salt into the ice water
in the sink used to chill the 2 gallon batch of wort? my son has a slushy machine that
uses this to freeze juice into slushies

It will speed the cooling (since salt, brine & ice can get down to 0F), but will use a heap of salt (a pound per gallon of ice) and more ice than just using ice water.

They proved on myth busters that ice water cools faster than Ice alone but I'm not sure about adding salt. I would think it would speed up cooling. That's how those old ice cream makers worked.
