Hello from Mississippi

Just wanted to introduce myself and say that I'm brand new to home brewing! A few of the guys at my office and myself plan to buy kits and get together every couple of months to sample each others recipes. Not knowing any better, I just ordered the deluxe kit from homebrewheaven.com with the scuttlebutt porter. Does anybody know if this was a wise choice for a first timer?

I realize there is a lot to this beer making, but the kit comes with instructions and video, plus I've taken to reading Palmers book about home brewing. Am I headed down the right path?
