Gillette 7 O Clock suer platinums are smoother/sharper than the super stainless. however I can't notice much difference between the two. I'll see how many shaves I can get out of the blue pack compared the green. I got four out of the green and I think I could have squeaked more out if the blade hadn't oxidized as quick or if I was home more that week to shave at home and not with the travel razor.

Here is the 62' Gillette slim I got on eBay for $26

A quick soak in soapy water then a scrub with toothpaste really brought back the shine.

Slim is one of my favorites.

Got a couple nice shaves out of a Derby. Maybe my bad experience before was operator error.

I haven't tried the derby's yet but I feel the same way about the bluebirds. I was feeling confident with my new found shaving skills and was probably to fast and rough but blamed the blades.

Any suggestions for polishing this old slim?

I'm not a fan of Derby's, Big Ben either. So far my favorites are Shark and Feather, but for the price Shark wins it hands down.

I love shark super chromed. Haven't tried feathers. But for the price difference. Probably wont

I've used Feathers twice now, and I just dont like them. They really carve me up and dont give a close shave.
My favorites so far are Bluebird and Astra.

Oh man, that straight with the black scales needs a little love... But they both look nice!!

I'm still a little scared of spike points...

I've been shaving with a Merkur 34C razor and would have to say that out of all the blades I've tried from my sampler packs, Derby and Sharks have been my favorite. I have never considered going back to the standard plastic multi-blade razors ever again. What an amazing experience wet shaving has become!

First DE shave is in the books. No nicks, no cuts, ridiculously comfortable shave.

Being the net weenie I am, I had to document it for posterity. Enjoy.

Oh yeah...the 'stache is for Mustache March. A few guys and myself at work are growing out the 'staches for the month just for giggles.

Indeed, welcome to the fold, once vetted you will be visited by a senior member to learn the handshake.

Oh sure, totally gloss over the fact that only about 18% of us make it through the vetting process alive.

I bought myself a load of new stuff recently, my wife thinks I'm going all metro buying cremes and balms and after shaves.
I got myself the Mr Taylors creme, the sandalwood creme from TOBS, the Victorian Lime #74 AS from TOBS, a new stand for brush and razor, a new Kent shaving soap in a wooden bowl, a large mug for a shaving mug, a shaving mirror and a few other bits and pieces.
The next on the list is the TOBS #74 victorian lime cologne, I like the AS so much.

I was reminded recently of how good my Progress is when I went on holidays to the UK and brough my black plastic Wilkinson Sword DE razor as holiday backup and the shaves were crap compared to what I got when I came home and used the Progress again. Who'd a thunk that the razor would actually make that much difference when the blades are the same.

I've been working on restoring those two straights. Tonight I made a test set of scales. Thought you kids would like to see. Whaddya think?

If you want to follow the whole thing, head over to Badger and Blade.

Hey guys, just wanted to throw out a selfless plug. As I've learned so much about brewing from this site, I've transferred my skills over to producing shaving products. I have several shaving products made with home brewed beer which is awesome! to see them check out www dot rockymountainshaving dot com there are also a few shaving sets on there but just a heads up DE razors are coming in a couple of weeks.

Ok you nut jobs, I just ordered some equipment from amazon. Hehe, I was reading through this thread all night at work last night and it's funny I been thinking about trying to go old school on shaving for a bit and I find this thread! So thanks for all the info! Ill keep you all posted on my results.

What'd ya get? A straight? I love mine. Takes a bit longer, but I enjoy shaving now. This forum has gotten me hooked on other hobbies, smoking meat and wet shaving. I'm hoping no one starts a R/C plane thread!

I hate you.

JK- That's a beast man, way cool! I used to fly nitro RC planes back in the day. I love the smell of nitro in the morning! My FIL flies Electric Heli's, but I've never seen it get more than 18" off the ground before going absolutely nuts and causing more destruction than I ever thought possible in 1.4 seconds. I just think he likes to wrench on it. =)

I read this thread for the first time about 6 weeks ago. I ordered my Merkur 34 C a couple weeks after that - after doing some more research. I also have a boar brush and a soap bowl. I'm going to upgrade to a badger brush, once I get the hang of this.

I absolutely love to shave now! I turned a miserable chore into a fun hobby.

I recently moved and its amazing the difference the water can make. I had to turn down the aggressiveness on my Fatboy from six to four... craziness.

Welcome to the club sticks!

It's totally crazy.

I add glycerin to my lather and it makes a big difference since my water is so hard.

I know I don't belong here, and won't bother you again, but I think it's really nice.
I've actually had an interest in the old-fashioned wet shave. Seems like an exotic man-ritual that has gone by the wayside. I think that young men could really benefit from learning some of these rituals. Something to be passed down from father to son. That a DAD teaches.

My father passed away some years ago, but he taught me how to shave using a safety razor and canned goo, however he abandoned the safety razor shave for a new fangled electric razor shortly after.

I think we all want to try the new product or gizmo. many of us in this thread had shave related woes from electrics and the latest multiblade hooey and have since gone full circle to the old ways that just work better, were my father still alive I think he would have gone the same route as I did.

My son is 9 month old, when he is old enough I will teach him the art of a quaity wet shave, how to properly use a safety razor, and as he gets older I will teach him to shave with a straight razor.

You go, azscoob! There seem to be fewer arts for men to teach sons nowadays, and face-shaving is something a mom can't teach, by example or google. You guys are giving me hope for a new generation of men. I do think that a straight razor gives appreciation for the necessity of precision and mindfulness. Learn its importance, then apply as needed in any area of life. Slow down and consider the consequences :)
Oh, yeah. I promised to keep out! Sorry!
