What is the deal with using town water to brew beer? I know it has chlorine and other chemicals in it. I have a fresh water spring available or distilled water? What is the recommendation?

Water can get very technical, I would use the town water as most of the chlorine and flouride will evapourate during boiling if you are boiling. If you are confident that the spring water is clean you may be on the best water money can buy. Try and see, do the same beer with each water. I wouldnt use distilled as you would need to add ingredients to get it to match the beer style.

Thank you for the suggestion. I am brewing my first 5 gallon batches this weekend. I am brewing and amber ale, brown ale, and basic ipa. I definitely want good water that doesn't change the flavor.
