Grow Your Own, Brew Your Own School 2009
July 18th & 19th Rising Sun Farm, Paonia Colorado

This program will concentrate on growing your own brewing ingredients, with hands-on brewing activities for the beginner to intermediate small-scale brewer who wants to grow and brew with their own ingredients.

This weekend we will follow the creation of beer, starting with barley and hops at the farm. Students will learn farming basics; complete with lectures and hands-on farm activities on an organic hop farm. Next we’ll move into the brewery to brew up a half-barrel batch of farm ale. As we brew the day away, students will learn about brewing science and biochemistry, equipment, kegging, and brewing sustainably. Finally, comes the beer portion. Students will learn beer-tasting basics, and evaluate many beers including their own homebrews, alongside their peers and professional brewers.
At the end of the weekend, the winner of the “1st Annual Rising Sun Homebrew Competition” will be announced
