My parents usually give me 100 bucks for my birthday that is coming up in a couple of weeks. My question to you is, do I save for Vegas at the end of the month or get a piece brewing equipment.

Don't like casinos, hookers or gambling when you really can't afford it because you are asking this question and talking about $100.00 .. Sounds like you would be best off starting some kind of savings plan so when you are an old fart like me you don't have to eat dog food.

If the Vegas trip is already planned then save it for Vegas. You'll either need it and be glad you have it or you won't need it and can still spend it on brewing gear when you get back.

Kinda like guns and condoms...better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Although that's debateable with condoms.:D

$100 bones don't go very far in Vegas, you'll spend it in 2 hours. $100 of beer equipment will enrich your life for many years to come..... Also I'm not a gambler so my opinion is horrendously biased :)

Ditto. I cannot for the life of me understand why people enjoy going to Vegas. Throw some money away? Catch a disease? Hells YEAH! <eyerolll>

I like going to Vegas because I make money whenever I do. Also, lots of great restaurants, free booze, and tons of eye candy.

But I agree that $100 is not going to tip the scales in Vegas. You need to be properly bankrolled.

Prostitution in legal in Nevada, except for Clark county (AKA Vegas) and Washoe (Reno).

Brewing gear will keep on giving, Vegas just takes.

Because we're not all 40 and old?
Hey I'm 45 and I go to Vegas all the time.:rockin: But I can understand why people don't want to go, it's not for everybody.

I can also understand why people wouldn't want to go to all the immense trouble and expenditure to homebrew beer. It's a real PITA.

But I understand why people like to do those things...personal enjoyment...plain and simple. Whatever melts your butter imo.:)

Vegas doesn't have to be expensive. Just don't play against the casino (or if you do, just play blackjack and/or video poker, and know what you're doing).

I went for four days several weeks ago, budgeted $100 a day for gambling, and ended up about even (not counting airfare/hotel/food). The food is great, the hotels are nice, there's lots of stuff to see, and drinks are free. What's not to like? :)

Not roulette, you get better odds betting the pass line on craps if that's what you're after.

Craps is pretty much all I play. Best odds, most fun.

But hey, you gotta throw down on the wheel once in a while. I used to lay it all on my age but I passed 36 several years back.

May have to try that. I think I'll be there next weekend.

I actually hit the age bet 4 times, maybe played it 10. Ten bucks pays $350.

Nobody goes to Vegas to actually make money. Just think of it as money you never had, and have fun in Vegas. If you are careful, $100 can go pretty far if you play the $10-$20 tables and don't get stupid (like my roomate who blew $100 in 4 spins on a $25 roulette table in the Playboy Club).

i passed up on vegas today so i could afford to get fittings for my future kegs/keggles.
and i couldnt take time off work with this short of notice. damnit!!!

i would've gone and blew it all

I say vegas. That being said my reasoning is because I havn't made it there yet, and it's only 18ish hours away and I want to go! LOL!!! I wouldn't gamble much... Hit the penny slots for 10 bucks then put a 10 or 20 in the appropriate machine... Odds are WAY against ya but if ya hit it... mmmm... I hear there isn't any "good" beer on the strip. Is this still true? Sure I like my 7&7's or a margarita, maybe, if the mood strikes, a good spicy bloody mary but they don't seem to hit the spot if I'm in the mood for a good IPA. *shrug*

Usually I just play poker, though.

I'm a black jack player, and I don't drink when I play because I want to win. I'll be there for my job working the SEMA show so room, food, air fare are already taken care of.

Playing to win? In Vegas?

Gambling in Vegas is all about the rush and/or having a good time.

Trying to actually win produces nothing but anxiety and empty pockets.

I'm changing my vote. You are better off spending the cash on brew gear.

There's New Belgium Fat Tire at New York New York (and probably the rest of the MGM/Mirage casinos), most of the big casinos have Sam Adams, and there's a little outdoor bar in front of Caesars that has Rogue Hazelnut Brown (there's no gambling out there though, so it'll cost you eight bucks).

New York New York has a 24-hour bar called Pour 24 --I learned this from an HBT member after my trip was over :( ... they have Abita, Big Sky, Firestone, Dogfish Head, Pyramid, Deschutes, New Belgium, Rogue, and some others.

There are a few other beer spots; do a search here for +Vegas +beer for more.

I still haven't been able to find a decent bloody mary in Vegas, however. No one uses horseradish, just hot sauce...

Not true, I knew a number of people who played poker professionally. But, it's a job. You play 40-50 hours a week and maybe make $80-100K a year. As long as you aren't greedy, the casinos don't mind. In fact, having winners at a table will draw other players, 99.9% of which are there for the rush.
