Johnson Temp Control Probe=waterproof?

I gave someone the advice to put their probe in a water bottle to reduce temp fluctuation, but I just wanted to make sure that the Johnson probe is waterproof. I use Ranco, and am not very familiar with the other unit.

I built a small thermo well using a piece of copper pipe stub(surge suppressor), filled it with automotive coolant and siliconed it closed. I've had it running for about a month now without any problems.

I know Im a huge help.....

I am taking one of those ice packs using that stuff thats inside to put the probe in. Ill probably use an old White labs vial for all this.

Yes the johnson controls can be submerged with no issues I've seen it done many times.

I was just going to ask if this is ok and waterproof. I just got my kegerator going would like to make sure the temp is solid and not up and down.

so far it is waterproof, or at least ethylene glycol proof.

I have two, one of them is over 5 years old. I have dipped the old one into more water/wort than I can remember. Personally no problems noted.
I'm just surprised the sucker still works with the way I treat it.
