I know it is a bad idea to mix metals for this so my question is this, would the copper ground wire in electrical be safe to use in keeping the coils stiff?

That is copper so you're not mixing metals. You building your own or re-enforcing a store bought model?
Yes, copper is copper for our purposes. I think the thing you're focusing on is like if you were using Aluminum or Stainless Steel and Copper mixed.

I know in theory im not, but kinda wondering if the ground wire is really pure copper. I know it looks it when you cut it but wasnt 100% sure.
Built my own, 60ft with a center and outer coil. Cooled down 4 gallons yesterday in under 10 min, talk about happy!

I know most grounding rods are not copper, just copper coated, but copper wire should be good.

I just took a section of 14 gauge Romex and stripped all the insulation off. Works fine.
