I just made my first batch that I plan to keg instead of bottling. I have a new 5 gal corny keg but unfortunately it looks like this batch is going to only turn out to be about 3.5 gallons when all said and done. Question: Is there any problem kegging 3.5 gallons in a 5 gallon keg? Would I be better off getting a 3 gallon keg for this batch?

How did you end up with only 3.5 gallons? Did you use a recipe kit? As most are for 5 gal batches. I just want to be sure that you weren't supposed to add cold water to bring your beer to 5 gallons. Regarding keging, you shouldn't have any problems keging less beer.

Just make sure you purge with CO2 after you get the beer in the keg. put it on CO2 and pull the relief valve about 8 times, giving it a few seconds in between pulls. The CO2 should push the oxygen out
