Ok so I am about 4 days into my first batch of wine and the fermentation seems to be going strong. However, the smell coming out of the fermenter is not what I expected. It does smell faintly of grape juice and yeast...but it almost smells a little "off". Not sure how it is supposed to smell but it does not smell like wine. Am I just fretting over nothing?

Are you using a new(er) airlock?? I get that new rubber smell for quite a while but I can distinguish it from the others. It shouldn't affect your wine as long as the liquid isn't touching the rubber stopper.

You could hang a dozen roses in there and it will still smell just the same.

Its the smell we wine makers love, the faint rotten grape with deviled eggs thrown in.

It will go away in a week. Not to worry...
