Root Beer Extract + Cane Sugar + Water + Champagne Yeast = Root Beer.
Mix well, bottle and wait for a few weeks. Chill and enjoy.
Not trying to be a smart ass, but I find the easiest way is to just follow the instructions on the package.

I think he was looking for an original recipe. I'd like to see one, also.
