How dark does the room need to be for the primary?
We've got a nice big laundry sink to contain possible carboy blow outs, but the room has a window w/blinds that lets a small amount of sunlight in during morning hours.
I'd like to leave the carboy in the sink for the first few days, then move into dark closet when the fermentation slows.

The room can have all the light you want, it is just a good idea to shield the carboy from natural light. That can be done by wrapping it with a towel, or putting a old t-shirt over it etc....

put the carboy in its original box and close the lid. run the blowoff tube out the box and into the sink.
