Hey Ya'll,

I kinda went crazy at More Beer and bought a ton of ingredients that I don't know what to do with. I got the mashing bug after 10 extract kits and all these just sounded good. It was also my first time in a homebrew shop (all internet for me thus far). I will be performing my first partial mash in my homemade Coleman MLT but I don't know grain amounts (nor which ones to use) strike water temps, mash temps, sparge temps, times, etc. Any help would be great.

12lbs American Two Row Pale
10lbs Crystal 60L
6 lbs Amber DME
1lb Black Patent
1lb Chocolate
2lb Carafa Special II
2 oz Liberty
2 oz Galena
2 oz Glacier
2oz Summit (way too expensive)
2 vials White Labs California Ale V

I'd say you could make a Brown and Pale Ale out of those.

Brown..

6lbs Two Row
.5lb Crystal 60
.5lb Chocolate
Enough DME to get you 1.050 or so
1oz Galena at 60
.5oz Glacier at 20
.5oz Summit at 5
1 vile WL Cali ale in 1qt starter

Pale Ale...

6lbs Two Row
1 lb Crystal 60
DME to 1.055 to 1.060
Use up the rest of your hops, get creative, maybe dry hop with a .5-1oz of something
1 vile WL Cali ale in 1qt starter

I'm really just pulling this out my a$$, since I haven't used most of those ingredients before. Not sure what you would use the Carafa for. But those grain bills should get you in general area of the styles, IBU's for the Brown should be around 25-35, and for the Pale 20-40, I personally would lean towards the higher end of IBU's(or exceed them) on both but that's me. I love them hops.

Anyhow, hope that will help you get started.:mug:

Sweet, this is exactly what I was looking for. I thought I could just wing it, but since it is my first partial, I thought I would ask.

Thanks for the help and I will let you know how it turns out!

No prob, hope it turns out well. Also, if you don't already, think about washing your yeast. You can save some pretty good coin to spend on other stuff.:mug:

I have a similar question. Not sure what happened but I ended up ordering more ingredients than I'd thought. I need more yeast and will buy whatever I need...but here's my current inventory:

Grains:
  • Victory - 6 oz
  • American 2-row - 1 lb
  • Crystal-10 - 2 lb, 7 oz
  • Crystal-20 - 8 oz
  • Crystal-40 - 6 oz
  • Crystal-60 - 8 oz
  • Munich - 7 oz
  • Chocolate - 3 oz
  • Extra Special - 7 oz
  • Torrified Wheat - 1 lb

Hops:
  • Hallertau - 0.5 oz
  • Kent - 0.5 oz
  • Cascade - 0.5 oz
  • Willamette - 0.75 oz
  • Saaz - 0.5 oz

Your ideas are much appreciated, even if you have 2 separate recipes. Also, if there's a place I can determine a recipe myself, that'd be even better. Thanks, all!
