I just decided to brew today, usually something I plan far in advance due to having a family. Well we're just veggin' this afternoon and I figured I'd try my hand at the BIAB method, something I've been meaning to do. Here's the recipe I just designed, a session mOktoberfest. Please give feedback, the strike water is heating as we speak! I'm not terribly concerned about sticking to a particular style with this beer as much as making a tasty session beer. Any advice is very much appreciate

Brulosopher's mOktoberfest
Est OG: 1.040
Est FG: 1.011
IBU: 23
SRM: 8
Est ABV: 3.8%

GRAIN
4.75 lbs Munich (10L)
2.50 lbs Pilsner (Canadian)
6.00 oz C60

HOPS
14 g Perle @ 50 min
14 g Perle @ 20 min
15 g Perle @ 5 min

YEAST
WLP029 German Ale/Kolsch

Mash temp: 156F (low OG, want some residual dextrins/body)
Fermentation: Pitch @ 64F, rest for 2 days, free rise to 70F over next week

Well, I'm halfway through the boil and things are coming along well. So far, BIAB has proven to be easy, time saving, and very VERY efficient! My mash eff was 93%, way higher than when I fly or batch sparge. I'll be doing a little write up on today in a new thread...

What do you attribute the higher efficiency to? Is it because of the grain being at lower temperatures for longer than with a "regular" mash? Is there a lot of grain particulate in wort? Would that increase OG readings enough to give an inacurate efficiency calc? Or is it just plain more efficient?

Nice efficiency... how fine was your crush?

Well... I ended up right about 70% brew house eff, which is fine. I think my boil off rate is BeerSmith is off. Either way, 4 hour brew day on a 1.035 mOktoberfest... not bad ;)
