I have a glass carboy and I was wondering if there is a good device for measuring the temp of the fermenter.

Or does is it the temp of the environment that matters more?

They have those little thermometer strips that adhere to the side of the carboy, they are imporatant because your brew can be 3-4-5 degrees warmer than the ambient air due to the fermentation.

About a year ago, several people ran tests and determined that thermometer strips on the outside of a carboy or bucket accurately reflected the internal temperature. And that a fermenter will tend to be several degrees warmer than ambient.

I use an indoor/outdoor thermometer and tape the temperature probe to the side of the carboy and then cover it with a towel (dry) to get an accurate reading of the contents.
