I just started my first brew at home, I followed the book on how to brew...i'm in the second stage of fermentation. The beer is in the carboy and it's been 7 days, the book says the finished gravity should be 1.008....? mind was 1.020....I may have done something wrong???? any suggestions.....Craig

Well, it might just not be done yet. The next time, take the SG before you move the beer. It should always be at the FG (final gravity) before you move it- it doesn't usually drop much once you move it.

I'd keep it at a steady temperature for your yeast strain, and try to wait it out.

Could you post the recipe, so we can double check and see what the FG should be?
