Pin Lock Disconnect/QD/Post Leak Issues? Beware of the Supplied O-Ring

Ball lock and pin lock post o-rings are not all the same and may be the source of your quick disconnect/post leaks.

Ever since I got my pin lock keg and disconnects the slighest jostling of the line caused beer to leak out. The weight of the beer line alone could cause a leak at times. Large amounts of lube made the system "workable". Two weeks ago I came down to a 6 pack worth of beer all over my man cave floor. Good thing I finished the first beer quick and went for a refill before more beer was lost.

The o-rings are not more than 3 months and 10 gallons of beer old but I was so depressed I went and bought a couple pin lock o-rings from the LHBS. I took the old one out, which a vendor (who I will not name) supplied with the keg and wtf the new one is a larger size.

It seems that the ball lock and pin lock o-rings are close but not the same and many vendors supply the same one for ball and pin lock post. Changed to the new o-ring I have zero leak issues, no lube required.

Anyway this is mostly an FYI to anyone who has had a similar problem. Also as an FYI to certain vendors who do not seem to be aware there even is a difference. Hope this helps somebody and saves some beer.

Would you or anyone happen to know what size is the most correct size for pin lock posts? I've got the standard size (7/16 ID, 5/8 OD, 3/32 width; #111's I assume) and my pin lock disconnects have some play in them when seated correctly on the posts (the rings are lubed as well). They can tilt around and if they are NOT decently tilted then I can hear co2 gas escaping.

I've read of Bobby_m's recommendation of silicone #111 or standard black #112, and I'd like to get some but I'd like to get a 100-pack of those that work best. Any one with pin lock kegs that can make a definite recommendation is greatly appreciated. I'm liking the idea of silicone #111's but can't understand why those would necessarily be better than standard black #111's that seem ever-so-slightly too thin.

I posted a thread a while back on this very subject.

I went to the HD plumbing isle with the post and dip tube o-rings and matched them up with the appropriate sized replacements.

Danco #10 (post) and #83 (dip tube)are the ones I used. I used them dry, no lube and still no leaks. If I remember they were less than $3 for a package of eight.

No keg lube and no leaks on my pin locks.
