Filled my pressure barrel on Sunday and have been checking it sporadically, and noticed last night that the screw top has split (a good 3 inch split).

If I squeeze it (i.e. try and tighten it) I can hear and smell gas escaping.

So what should I do?

1) Buy a new lid for the pressure barrel and replace.

Easy enough, but how will removing the old lid and opening up the headspace impact the conditioning?

2) PET Bottle it straight from the barrel now.

If I do this will the beer continue to condition in the bottles?

3) Drink it now

4) Don't worry about it.

Really concerned my batch is going to get ruined if I don't do something asap?

Your advice is very welcomed.
