Fermentation generates a good amount of heat, what he likely means is that you want to monitor your temps while fermentation peaks. Every yeast has a recommended temp range, if you don't know what it is just google it. Look up "swamp cooler" if you haven't yet.

fermenting in buckets always makes the lid of the bucket bulge a bit. If you think that there's any chance it will blow, rig up a blow off tube.
